The initiative seeks to raise public awareness of the harmful effects of bushfires, and to promote responsible practices aimed at preventing uncontrolled fires, protecting the environment, safeguarding livelihoods and preserving the region’s natural resources.
Speaking at the event, the Regional Minister Hon. James Gunu stressed on the need for a collective approach to bushfire prevention, and urged residents, farmers, traditional leaders, youth groups and other stakeholders to actively support the campaign.
Hon. Killian Donkor advised the public to exercise caution in the use of fire and to make sure fires lit at the farms for whatever purpose are completely quenched by the close of farm work. He also advised farmers and other bush burners to set a 5-meter fire boundary when burning bushers, to prevent catastrophic wild fires.
