The Kpando Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kpando, Hon. Sebastian Deh, has commissioned and handed over five development projects aimed at improving education, healthcare, security and staff welfare across the Municipality.
The projects comprise the Rehabilitation of a Six-unit classroom block at Kpando Abanu; Construction of a new Six-unit classroom block at Kpando Gabi; Construction of Nurses’ Quarters at Kpando Togorme; Rehabilitation of the Municipal Police Headquarters at Tsakpe New Town; And Construction of a CHPS compound with staff quarters at Dzigbe.
The commissioning exercises, led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Killian Donkor, was attended by Hon. Sebastian Deh, traditional authorities, Assembly Members, Heads of Departments and Units of the Assembly, representatives of the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service, Personnel of the Ghana Police Service, community leaders and residents of the various communities.
Hon. Donkor said the projects demonstrate the Assembly’s commitment to providing critical infrastructure and improving living conditions in the Municipality. He stated, “Today, we are not just commissioning buildings. We are commissioning HOPE. We are fulfilling the social contract we signed with the good people of Kpando.”
At Kpando Gabi JHS, the classroom projects include offices, storerooms, modern toilet facilities, furniture and water infrastructure. The facilities are expected to address inadequate classroom infrastructure and overcrowding, and to provide safer, more conducive environments for teaching and learning. The MCE urged the Ghana Education Service, school authorities and the communities to maintain the facilities properly.
The Dzigbe CHPS compound comprises a delivery room, consulting room, two-bed ward, nurses’ quarters and solar power system. The facility is expected to bring essential healthcare services closer to residents of Dzigbe, particularly mothers, children and vulnerable groups. Hon. Donkor also emphasized that decent accommodation for health workers is important for attracting and retaining qualified personnel.
At Tsakpe New Town, the Police Headquarters was rehabilitated, that is roofing, electrical wiring, tiling, office and washroom facilities, as well as a modern charge office. Recalling the facility’s previous poor condition, the MCE asked, “How can we ask the police to protect us when their own workplace is not safe?” He expressed appreciation to the headship of the Ghana Police Service, and called for continued collaboration to safeguard lives and property.
Hon. Sebastian Deh commended the Assembly and its stakeholders, and urged beneficiary institutions and communities to use and maintain the facilities properly.
The MP also disclosed that the Kpando Constituency has 14 GETFund projects at various stages of implementation, including an 18-unit classroom block at Kpando Senior High School and ongoing road construction at Bishop Herman College. He emphasised the importance of adequate GETFund resources to sustain educational infrastructure development.
The Assembly called on beneficiary communities and institutions to take ownership of the projects, maintain them and ensure that the facilities continue to serve their intended purposes for many years to come.
