The Kpando Local Prison has received significant support from Coca‑Cola to construct a modern workshop for inmates. The facility is designed to equip prisoners with artisan skills such as sewing and carpentry, enabling them to reintegrate into society and build sustainable livelihoods after serving their sentences. Emo Foundation also contributed to the project, while inmates themselves played an active role by serving as laborers during the construction.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the invited guest, Hon. Killian Donkor, emphasized that prison should not be seen solely as a place of punishment. He noted that even in biblical times, individuals who passed through prison later became prominent figures. He further highlighted that “gone are the days when big grammar alone paid; today, artisans are also thriving financially.”
Hon. Donkor expressed gratitude to Coca‑Cola for their support and commended the Kpando Prison staff for their dedication. He urged the staff to remain united and to extend that spirit of unity to the inmates, preparing them to return to society as responsible and productive citizens. He encouraged that upon release, inmates should be well‑established, returning only to greet officers rather than reoffend.
