On Tuesday, 2nd June 2026, the Kpando Municipal Assembly held an inaugural ceremony to swear in new members of the Municipal AIDS Commission. The event marked a significant step in strengthening the fight against HIV/AIDS in the Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Killian Donkor, who also serves as the Chairman of the Commission, assured that “no one will be left behind in the fight against HIV.” He emphasized that the Commission’s mandate to dedicate, coordinate, test, and provide care would be fully carried out. Hon. Donkor further pledged that the Assembly would provide the necessary logistics, policies, and support to ensure the Commission achieves its objectives.
The members sworn into office include Hon. Killian Donkor as Chairman, Emmanuel Kona (Municipal Health Director), Evans Degboe (Civil Society Officer), Alhaji Baba Awal (Muslim Representative), and Mark Ahiave (Focal Person).
During the ceremony, Anyomi Mary Naa Asheley, Regional Technical Support Officer, delivered a presentation highlighting the realities of HIV/AIDS. She stressed that “HIV itself does not kill, but the stigma and discrimination associated with it do.” She explained that HIV can be transmitted through blood, vaginal fluids, semen, and breast milk, but clarified that casual interactions such as buying goods from someone living with HIV/AIDS do not pose a risk of transmission.
The inauguration reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to promoting awareness, prevention, and care, while also addressing stigma and discrimination to build a healthier, more inclusive community.
