The Environmental Health and Sanitation unit at the Kpando Municipal Assembly organized a medical screening exercise from Monday 20th February 2023 and ended on Friday, 28th March 2023 for food and drink handlers within the municipality.
The exercise forms part of the organized annual programs aimed at preventing communicable diseases like typhoid, cholera, etc. that can be transmitted from food vendors to consumers. The main focus of this year’s medical screening exercise was on widal test (typhoid fever).
A total of 2,161 food vendors were screened within the Municipality, of which about 151 tested positive for typhoid fever representing 6.9%. The vendors who tested positive were made to go to the hospital for treatment and were retested after treatment before their cards were given to them.
