The Kpando Municipal Directorate of Education has organized an inter-circuit cultural festival for all basic schools in the Kpando Municipality on Friday 18th August, 2023. The festival was under the theme, “The Relevance of Cultural Education to the Ghanaian Economy” and it was aimed at reviving the extinct cultures of the land. The objective of the festival was also to unravel lost cultures.
The event which took place at the Aloyi School park hosted performances from the five educational circuits of the Municipality, Akpini North, South, West, East and Central, with Akpini Central being the host. The performances staged at the festival were poetry performances, exhibition of artefacts, still-life drawings, figure drawing, construction and assemblage, cook art, sewing, fashion & design, choral music, drum language, drama sight singing, dance and ampe.
In a speech by the Hon. Municipal Chief Executive, he urged the participants and spectators, as well as teachers and parents present to hold on to the positive cultures of the land and the region. He stated that the cultures that once held the moral fibre of the society were being lost to modernization and acclaimed civilization, especially at the tertiary schools. He however stated that, barbaric traditions like human sacrifices and the like should be abolished totally.
He expressed appreciation to the Ghana Education Service for organizing the programme to reintroduce the present generation of youngsters to uphold societal morality and wisdom.
The Hon. MCE urged the score masters to be fair in their judgment, to encourage the students to put up their best performances and displays.
A total number of fifty-three (53) primary and junior high schools from the five (5) circuits of the Municipality participated in the festival.
The competitions were staged among the junior basic and senior basic schools respectively.
